I think it would help if you looked at it for what it is Understanding how the brain works will help you understand your date’s reaction to frustration. When a person has CP, it is because there was an injury to the brain. Where the injury occurs determines what abilities ‘might’ be compromised. My daughter, now 14, was born 3 months premature. She had a severe brain hemorrhage shortly after birth. The DRs couldn’t tell us for sure what would be affected, but told us what to watch for based on the location of the bleed. However, she does walk with an obvious CP gait. So physically she is affected. She has never studied for a spelling test in her life.
Love, Dating, Relationships and Disability
I guess that makes me a millennial yikes! I do want to talk about dating with disabilities though, because I believe that this topic is super important. Discussing dating with disabilities is important, because often society views the disabled population as inferior and almost non-existent.
Cerebral palsy dating is an idea we came up with as a way to connect individuals with the same everyday life challenges that are single and in search for love.
The disorder causes varying amounts of impairment. The levels of impairment are known by some of the other names for the condition. When the upper arm is the only part of the limb affected, the condition is simply called a brachial plexus injury. If the condition affects the hand it is called Klumpke paralysis; this form of the condition can cause the eyelid to droop on the side opposite to the affected hand.
The brachial plexus nerves are responsible for feeling and motion in the hand, fingers, and arm. Approximately one or two babies per thousand births will have a brachial nerve injury. Pulling excessively on the shoulders as the baby comes out head first can also lead to a brachial nerve injury. During a breech birth feet first , the arms are usually raised and may be injured from excess pressure.
Improved delivery techniques now prevent many brachial plexus injuries. Larger than average babies are at greater risk for this form of injury; larger than average birth weigh is called macrosomia and is defined as a birth weight of 8 lb, 13 oz or more. A breech birth the baby presenting abnormally—feet first also puts the baby at greater risk of injury.

Come to an event! It took me a long time to admit to myself that I had CP, and then accept my body for all it is. I was one of those people who rushed it in the beginning, and that did not end in my favor. I have been lucky and I am incredibly grateful; every guy I have dated has been so gracious when I told him about cerebral palsy, and what it means for how my body functions.
They all have said that CP is really a non-issue for them. Again, gaining confidence in yourself is incredibly important here! I have been working on building my self-confidence for a long time now, and I am finally in a good place, so I promise you it can happen! So… what happens when you are ready to date because you are confident in yourself and your self-worth? Those of us with disabilities have a little extra step to tackle with our partners.

How can I help? What do I need to know about dating a partner with a disability? My first piece of advice is to remember that everyone goes through the awkward stages of a new relationship and getting to know someone, regardless of disabilities. I clearly have a physical disability, but I used to think that it was best just to ignore that obvious fact unless my partner or potential partner wanted to talk about it.
I firmly believe that if more people would take the time to research the needs of those with disabilities and understand what the disability is — whether it be muscular dystrophy, spina bifida, cerebral palsy, autism, ADHD, or mental health conditions — they would be more open to dating someone with a disability.

Did you know that each year, approximately every two to three children out of 1, are born with cerebral palsy in Europe? From the frustrations of limited mobility to the physical pain of a chronic illness, adulthood presents its own hurdles. Yet, with a healthcare system that dedicates most of its efforts to treating children with CP, these problems often go unnoticed. So what sorts of challenges does living with cerebral palsy present, and what can we do about them?
Any sort of disability is very hard while dating because you have to tell the partner about your disability early on or it will seem like you were with welding information and that is a bad ethical decision that some people have to make.
James Neubrander to author this section is pending] [Example: This definition is now popularly defined as the inhalation of varying degrees of oxygen at greater than 1 atmosphere absolute ATA in a pressurized chamber. You will hear many terms used interchangeably by lay people and professionals alike: However, the most common way the term is used by the autism community is to just say “HBOT”. Then most parents will state what they are doing, e.
However, as history has shown repeatedly throughout the years, convention is only convention until challenged, proven wrong, and then changed. Such is the case with HBOT and autism. Based on the published studies by Dr. Rossignol, the early work of Dr. Kartzinel, and the tremendous number of children that have been treated by physicians such as Dr. Stoller and myself, and a growing number of other physicians who are now using HBOT routinely in their offices, there remains no doubt that HBOT works and that it works well for children with autism.
The reason I recommend HBOT for all my patients is because there is scientific evidence that pressure, independent of the concentration of oxygen, decreases inflammation and that any concentration of oxygen under any increased amount of pressure will allow more oxygen to dissolve into the extracellular fluids of the body: Fortunately such evidence does exist, the body of which continues to accumulate, and the mechanisms of action by which HBOT may work for children with autism, as described below, may already be outdated by the time you read this.
